Where's Our Dog Park?

Could be exciting news to share! A 6-acre parcel that would become home to the City of Marysville's first off-leash dog park has been identified at the 72-acre Strawberry Fields Athletic Complex in Marysville's north end, 6100 152nd St. NE.

An area southeast of the existing soccer fields has been identified as an appropriate spot for the park, and is part of an existing system of walking trails already used informally by many visitors and their pets.

Marysville Dog Owners Group (M-DOG) members spoke at the Marysville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting on May 14, 2008. The Board subsequently took action, and made a recommendation to the City Council to approve the off-leash park proposal. The City Council is scheduled to take action in the latter half of July. Please check this web site and local media for the public meeting date and time - if you're a dog lover who really wants an off-leash park in Marysville, you need to speak up and let the Council know that the off-leash park is a community asset that we all want and need.

M-DOG in its
nonprofit role will be acting as stewards for the off-leash park, responsible for maintenance and upkeep. We are currently raising funds for those unmet needs, such as equipment and doggy fixture needs at the park. At this year's Poochapalooza Outdoor Dog Event, M-DOG's major annual event, admission will be free, but we will be accepting donations at the gate toward the costs of getting the off-leash park off on the right "paw"!

In addition to financial support, M-DOG will need volunteer help, too.
Through a memorandum of understanding, members of the M-DOG have agreed to provide volunteer stewardship for the public facility, including picking up garbage, cleaning up dog waste left by negligent owners, trimming over-growth, maintaining trails, and more. The group will also install and maintain a kiosk at the off-leash park entrance to provide park rules and tips, and encourage pet owners to be respectful of a pastoral park environment that is flanked by sensitive areas and fish habitat.
