Canine Good Citizen Testing
and Agility Course
Cloud's Canine, a premier pet resort on Camano Island, will host and sponsor an exciting Activity Area that will allow people to test their hand at completing the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen program, Rally Obedience and Agility Course. So bring your rover on over, and give it a try!
10:00am - 11:30am AKC Canine Good Citizen
Is your dog a good citizen? Parade your pooch over to Cloud's Canine activity area and put yourselves through an evaluation that may earn your dog recognition from the American Kennel Club as a Canine Good Citizen. The AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluation is a 10-step observation of how your dog responds to various people, pets, and foreign stimulus while demonstrating appropriate responses and obedient behavior. This activity is open to all dogs, mixed or purebred, 6 months of age and older. Participating dogs do not have to be registered with the AKC.
12:00pm - 1:30pm Rally Obedience
Rally O is the newest and fastest growing form of competitive obedience within the American Kennel Club. Rally O takes your dog's obedience skills and applies them to a pre-determined course consisting of 10 to 20 stations at which you are asked to perform various obedience skills as a team. The goal is to move through the course as quickly and as cleanly as possible. Rally O provides a new form of activity and application for your dog's obedience skills that is a bridge between more rigorous forms of training and competition. This activity is open to all dogs so don't sit down. Heel on over with your Rover and give Rally O a try!
2:00pm - 3:00pm Agility Fur Fun!Agility is America's fastest growing dog sport. Weave, walk, or run your way over to Cloud's Canine activity area to jump your way through this novice level agility course that is open to all dogs 1 year of age and older. Dog's under 1 year of age are not allowed to participate due to their continued growth development and the risk of injury.
Clouds Canine will provide these offerings at the Clouds Canine Activity, which will also included a limited "Agility Fur Fun" agility course to give your dogs a try through the many obstacles they must choose to maneuver around, through, over and under.
AKC Canine Rally Obedience
Canine Rally-O challenges teams to comlete a course at their own pace that has been established by the Rally Judge. Courses consist of 10 to 20 stations depending upon the level of competition. Teams must display various skills at each station while working their way through the course as quickly and cleanly as possible. Canine Rally provides an enjoyable opportunity to apply your dog’s obedience skills and develop teamwork. Our Canine Rally course serves as a positive link between more rigorous forms of training and competition by allowing teams to stay active in a fun format and take a step into competitive obedience.
AKC Canine Good Citizen Testing
Before taking the Canine Good Citizen test, owners will sign the Responsible Dog Owners Pledge. We believe that responsible dog ownership is a key part of the CGC concept and by signing the pledge, owners agree to take care of their dog's health needs, safety, exercise, training and quality of life. Owners also agree to show responsibility by doing things such as cleaning up after their dogs in public places and never letting dogs infringe on the rights of others.
After signing the Responsible Dog Owners Pledge, owners and their dogs are ready to take the CGC Test. Items on the Canine Good Citizen Test include:
* Accepting a friendly stranger
* Sitting politely for petting
* Appearance and grooming
* Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead with pet owner)
* Walking through a crowd politely
* Sit and down on command and staying in place
* Coming when called
* Reaction to another dog; being able to behave politely around other dogs
* Reaction to distraction - dog is confident at all time when faced with common distracting situations
* Supervised separation - demonstrating that a dog can be left with a trusted person and maintain training and good manners.
Clouds Canine offers a wide range of classes including Canine Kindergarden, Canine Academy, Canine College, Rally Obedience, Agility Fur Fun and others, conducted in six-week rotations. Private training is available by appointment.
